Jake’s talk on Praise – 19th January 2017

Our Praise enthrones God

Psalm 22:3 Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the one Israel praises

Galatian’s 5:17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.

Praise puts God in His rightful place in our hearts

In Praise we declare his Triumph

Psalm 106:47 47 Save us, O Lord our God, And gather us from among the Gentiles, To give thanks to Your holy name, To triumph in Your praise. NKJV

Save us, God, our God!     Gather us back out of exile So we can give thanks to your holy name     and join in the glory when you are praised! The Message

2Cor 2:14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.

When we praise, we celebrate what He has already won.

Praise lifts our spirits

Isaiah 61:3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty     instead of ashes, the oil of joy     instead of mourning, and a garment of praise     instead of a spirit of despair.

Praise helps us to overcome

Praise is a sacrifice (something we have to give)

Jer 33:11 the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who will say:

“Praise the Lord of hosts, For the Lord is good, For His mercy endures forever”—

and of those who will bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord. NKJV

Hebrews 13:15Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.

Praising God when life is tough and we don’t feel like it, yet we push through, is a sweet and beautiful ‘sacrifice’.

Praise is a spiritual weapon

Psalm 8:2 Through the praise of children and infants     you have established a stronghold against your enemies,     to silence the foe and the avenger.

Rev 12:10-12a Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:

“Now have come the salvation and the power     and the kingdom of our God,     and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters,     who accuses them before our God day and night,     has been hurled down. 11 They triumphed over him     by the blood of the Lamb     and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much     as to shrink from death. 12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens     and you who dwell in them!

Matt 21:16b From the lips of children and infants     you, Lord, have called forth your praise’

Praise silences the accuser.

Praise paves the way for God’s supernatural intervention

Psalm 50:23 Those who sacrifice thank offerings honour me,     and to the blameless I will show my salvation.” NIV

Psalm 50:23 But giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honours me.     If you keep to my path,     I will reveal to you the salvation of God.” NLT

2Chro 20:21-22 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who should sing to the Lord, and who should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army and were saying:

“Praise the Lord, For His mercy endures forever.”

22 Now when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were defeated.

Jonah 2:9-10 But I, with shouts of grateful praise,     will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good.     I will say, ‘Salvation comes from the Lord.’”

10 And the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”

Acts 16:25-28

Praising God precedes His miraculous intervention

An encouraging talk giving us truth about what happens when we praise Jesus Christ.
